The lough is deep, has comparatively few shallows and it is often productive to continue fishing well out into the deep. The duck fly hatch commences around mid-April, followed by lake olives. The may fly hatch is sparse. The best fishing on the lough is usually at night-time. From late July to the end of the season dapping the grasshopper provides good sport. Traditional and imitative fly patterns are recommended....

A picturesque village on the River Inny, between Lough Sheelin and Kinale. In the centre of the village there is a memorial to Myles "Slasher" O'Reilly, who defended the town bridge in 1646, during the Confederate wars.
