murphy s brewery

Located at Lady's Well, it is Irelands most modern brewery, and had been producing stout for home consumption and export since 1856. The building was originally a hospital. The name Lady's Well refers to a well on the hill opposite the brewery which is supposed to have miraculous properties.
In 1993 the bewery was taken over by Heineken International as the berwery was experiencing financial difficulities. The was then changed to Murphy Brewery Ireland Ltd. After this take over by Heineken, Murphy's Irish Red Stout was launch into the international market and it is now the most popular stout all over the world.
In 2001 the official name of the company was changed again to  Murphy'sHeinken Brewery Ireland Ltd. 
In 2002, It was awarded the gold medal at the International Beer Olympics.
